Well, I went with Emitters, I havent yet played with terrain, volumes, emitters and I'm not sure what you mean by material system... Confused

Havent had any problems with static meshes, except for the fact that it's hard to find the right one...

For the 2 people who voted for "Terrains" up there - I just wrote up a 7 page tutorial in Word on Terrains that covers practically everything but Decolayers and steps you through creating terrain using either the Terrain Editing tools or doing it the manual method by plopping down the TerrainInfo and creating heightmaps by hand. I should be upping my new site this weekend and will have that tut there as well. (I know - shameless plug, but I've honestly had so many people ask me "how do you do terrains - the stuff at the UDN doesn't work right" that I figured I'd write one up anyways).

And as for the texture system, I'm just unsure about how to make my own custom textures... I tried doing something earlier and the editor crashed for the first time...

I've not gone into anything with the Material system in UEd in the tutorial but will most likely cover the process of making a few shaders in a tutorial since the UDN stuff on that tends to cover the generalities pretty well.

What I see a lot of people wanting is less "spec" style tutorials and more "walk you through the process with an example" type.

Dude you rock!! Great tut!

I have to print that one... Smile I remember editing for UT for the first time printing all wolfs tuts and some from other places. Very handy. It was like having a book Smile
